Fighting Poverty Project
# Made in Aba.
Made in Aba is facilitated by Fighting Poverty Project, a non-profit social service organization which is dedicated to helping men and women who are in clothing making and other skills get the resources they need to do their creative work. Since its creation in 2013, Fighting Poverty Project has raised over $100,000 and built a formidable network that offers fundraising and advocacy services to over 50,000 skilled youth a year.
Fight Poverty Project focuses on youth engagement in eradicating poverty, and on ways to finance youth development, with an accent on youth entrepreneurship, partnership with government, individuals and the private sector, job creation for young people and enhancing their voice in decision-making.
Recently, the attention of Fight Poverty Project has been drawn to an industrious and skilled city in Nigeria called Aba. Nicknamed the “Japan of Africa” because of its manufacturing prowess, strong entrepreneurial orientation and the “can do” spirit of the people. Aba, City of skills, an ancient center of learning, is slowly turning to dust. The city is stifling life, but residents know the blame lies not only with natural forces. Aba is teetering on the edge of existence also because of human neglect, and greed. Under-development and corruption are the co-conspirators of the ruin. The city is not only garrisoned physically, but it is also mentally sanded in.
The level of infrastructural decay we saw in Aba and what is on the ground there right now is alarming.
In Aba, many young people lack basic educational skills, as well as positive and essential role models, resources, and opportunities to help them succeed in life. Through academic, social and emotional support, leadership development, and enrichment programs, we provide opportunities for at-risk youth to expand their horizons, build their confidence and self-esteem, and acquire skills to help them succeed in school and in life.
Aba with its strong entrepreneurial setting, which attracts business operators from across the nation and international countries, has the potential to become a commercial and entrepreneurship hub of West Africa.
Re-developing Aba into a modern commercial hub; with functional infrastructure, education, stable power supply, reliable and decent public transportation system, urban traffic management system, structured and planned industrial layouts, clusters and parks, will release her revenue potential that can be leveraged upon to develop the rest of the nation.
Fight Poverty Project will give the talented youths in Aba an opportunity to showcase their work and to build their skills in the manufacturing of clothing, textile, leather goods, shoes, small electronic and electrical products among others with guidance from the experienced staff of Fight Poverty Project.
Imagine what would happen if we supported all those young people to take risks, over 50,000 more jobs would be created by 2020 to employ the Aba’s young people. The game has changed around skills with digital literacy in high demand, we have the vision, and the young people have the drive to bring this Agenda to life.
This project will also benefit all the communities in and around Aba by educating the youth. One of the goals of Fight Poverty Project is to get as many people as possible to take part in training in the form of skill acquisition programs, machinery to use to modernize their products of which at this stage are mostly made using obsolete equipment and handmade – whether it is clothing, textile, shoes, or other arts skills. This will build confidences for their work and give the communities members an ongoing sense of involvement in the arts and a chance to learn more about their chosen fields. We need to invest in productivity, skills, and education to make the best of Aba’s talents.
Fighting Poverty Project is looking for partners who share our mission — to help empower and support underserved young people in Aba. We do our best to raise funds and awareness, but we rely on people like you to help us spread the word and maintain our programs. With you and your community’s help, we can reach even more youths in need of assistance. You can have a tremendous impact on people in need.
A gift to support Fight Poverty Project is an investment in both creativity and equality. By focusing attention on the work of talented youths, Fight Poverty Project will help the young and skilled youth of Aba live their dreams.
We are excited about working with you and hope to hear from you soon. Please give as generously as you can. For Checks and equipment donations please contact us via email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. All your donations will be greatly appreciated.
The money donated will go directly to training, purchase of machines and equipment. Together, these will be used to empower talented youths to gain a variety of essential life skills, which are vital for maintaining healthy relationships, future employability and effective integration into the community.
